Poetry, novels, fine art, fashion — I love the creative process, especially when it involves multiple talents, so I was thrilled when my publisher, Leland Chuck, advised that Gigi Little would be designing my book cover. He’d sent me to her website, and I saw in her work a perfect match for my aesthetic.
I’d worked with many talented artists previously in my fine art gallery days in San Francisco and with the creative team at Winterland Productions when I was a Product Manager developing a line of eye-catching T-shirts for young boys to complete the Boy’s 8-20 Denim collection at Levi Strauss & Co. The power and synergy of creative teams when everything is working well is magical.
It was like that when Gigi asked the name of the artist behind the installation piece that Lowry had photographed on the sands of the Salton Sea. I didn’t have the answer. But Gigi found him and he, too, agreed to add his artistry to the process.
You can find the whole story here, on Gigi’s blog: https://utomniabene.blogspot.com/
Working with Gigi on the cover of Post Apocalyptic Valentine has been like that. She “gets it”. She listens and brings her own amazing creative instincts and capabilities to the project.
On that LS&Co. T-shirt project, we used to say the screen prints were great work when an image was strong enough to catch the eye of someone hurtling along at 60+mph. I think this cover does that.
