Going for the Gold: London Book Festival and Paris Book Festival Awards

May 12, 2014Linda Watanabe McFerrinDispatches, WorkshopsNo Comments

WanderinginParis_sTwo great pieces of news arrived in my e-mail message box this morning.

The first piece of super news: They are finally sending the gold stickers for the front cover of Wandering in Paris: Luminaries and Love in the City of Light, the prize-winning anthology of stories produced at our last international literary workshop. You might remember that Wandering in Paris: Luminaries and Love in the City of Light took top honors in the anthologies and collections category at the London Book Festival in an awards ceremony honoring the best of international publishing in January of this year. That’s how long we’ve been waiting for those stickers!

The second piece of excellent news: Wandering in Paris: Luminaries and Love in the City of Light was just awarded an honorable mention in its category at the Paris Book Festival.

The collection, which includes a foreword by noted Paris-based author and travel writer, David Downie and the work of talented known Bay Area writers, is the third in a series from the Wanderland Writers Workshops (www.wanderlandwriters.com), which have produced collections of essays on Costa Rica and Bali. Writers in this anthology include: Unity Barry, Daphne Beyers, Sandra Bracken, Mary Brent Cantarutti, Antoinette Constable, Kitty Hughes, Laurie McAndish King, Ethel Mussen, Catherine Pyke, Cindy Rasicot, and Anne Sigmon.

Phil Cousineau, author of The Art of Pilgrimage and The Book of Roads, has this to say about the anthology:

“Wandering in Paris is not only one of my favorite things to do in the world, it is also the title of this marvelous new collection of stories and poems. As you read through them, don’t be surprised if you hear the voice of Edith Piaf herself as she sings, “C’est marveilleux.’ ‘It’s marvelous.’ So is this transportive book.”

Of course, it’s wonderful to be acknowledged again for the anthology. I just wonder … are stickers involved?

______

btw:  Our next trip—Wandering in Cornwall—is sold up; however, I will be taking writers to Japan in early 2015, so let me know if you’d like to join me for that one.
